This blog was orginally started a number of years ago on a whim when all my friends were getting into blogging. I no longer want this blog to just be a whim. I am hoping to post regularly, especially over the next year to chronicle my escapade as I navigate my year off of school.

I know I said I would post regularly and already I am failing at this. Oh well…I guess I will just post sometimes.

I recieved my China package the other day! So the plans are all in the works (and need to be done by the first few days of August!!!). Tickets, visas, packing, immunizations…SO MUCH TO DO! But I am beyond excited!

I scraped the moving to Whistler idea and am now going to move to a different city area and live with some friends! I am looking for work there right now! So all I have to do is finish out this job (and I am trying to end my contract a little early) and then I will be off to China for a month and then back and moving!

As you can tell my life is a little hectic right now. AND on top of all that I am trying to find time to study for the GRE. I am taking a math prep this Sunday and then a full prep course next weekend and I am writing on the 2nd of August! And then I will finally be on my year off…for real! It will also be a nice birthday gift to myself. Write the GRE and then I will be able to totally relax the next day and enjoy my birthday! Well, aside from the having to go to work part.

Last weekend I was visiting my friends at the house I am moving into. These are two of the friends who I am planning on going canoeing with! We spent the time planning, and then replanning our trip and then we booked it!!! This, and the custom team t-shirts we designed, was made this week bearable so far! I cannot wait for this trip to get underway. We just need to get our stuff together so that we are not running around frantically on packing day trying to find stuff we thought someone would have.

That is all for now folks…although, I am sure there is much more I could tell you…

Illegal Posting from Work

So I am sitting at work doing exactly what I am not supposed to do…mess around on the internet. But right now I would so much rather post to Tumblr than call people to renew memberships. I will however be keeping this post short so as to avoid the possibility of being caught.

I am pleased to announce that a number of things went quite well for me this weekend and I will be making a trip to China for a month in September! I am also baking brownies…pictures (hopefully!) to follow! Oh! And two good friends of mine invited me to live with them!!!

This China trip is really the exciting thing though! I will be leaving on September 5 for a month of volunteering with IVHQ in Xi’an China. I will be working with special needs children and I cannot wait! I have been working with special needs kids for a long time…professionally since I was 17 and worked at a camp for kids with learning disabilities. I also worked closely with a number of disabled students throughout my junior high, high school and university education! I cannot wait to get started on this adventure and I cant wait to tell you all about them!

On an unrelated note…my grandparents arrive this evening for a week…dun dun duuuuh! Hopefully I make it through with most of my sanity in tact!

Welcome Back!

It has been far too long since I last tried blogging. So here it goes…a second shot! I started blogging a few years ago when it was very popular with my friends but had a hard time sticking with it. This was most likely due to a combination of school, trying to have a social life and also not really caring that much. This is not to say that this time it wont happen again. But I am going to put in my best effort.

I am taking a year off of school this year, which to me, seems like a good time to pick this back up. I do have lots of plans that involve travel, moving, the GRE and grad school applications.

I want to chronicle some of my plans, experiences, and mostly likely pitfalls over the next year. But I also just want a place to be a little goofy.

It is very likely that that no one is ever actually going to read this. But it will be a good place for me to keep track of my own life, and to look back and see any personal growth I experience over the year.

And so, for now my dear, most likely non-existent, readers, I bid thee farewell! I will post again soon detailing the plans I have laid out for the year.

Yeppers - I absolutly love this advertisement. Love it so much that I set it as my desktop background. An honour seeing as I have been changing my background only for things that really seem important. Just sit back and take in the image and see if you can tell me that it does not spark some kind of emotion for you.

There are 14 days of classes left (including today) before exams start and this got me to thinking. A bunch of my friends are leaving to go to Dalhousie to finish their engineering degrees. How is this going to chage the group dynamic of the people left here? Geoff, Jamie, Corban and myself. Jamie and Geoff fall into more similar (although still very different) personality types whereas Corban and I fall into a simialr category. Are we all going to kill each other or will it smoth things out and lead to some fair fights? I love thinking about group dynamics and watching the interactions between people. Can you tell I am a sociology/psychology major??? Oh well. I am going to miss the engineers…much as sometimes they drive me crazy and I jsut want to tell them to “shove it” I still absolutly love them. They bring my group of friends to a whole different level.

If found please return.

Welcome to the Great Wall of China. I recently went on a trip with my family to visit some friend who are living in China. We did so many amazing things and I hope to get a photo album up sometime soon so that you can take a look at some of the pictures from our trip.
The great wall as seen in the pictures and in the movies does not compare to the real thing. Yes in the movies it looks breathtaking and beautiful and immense and just all around amazing BUT when you are actually standing on the great wall and can see it trailing off into the distance as the sun is starting to set…that is one of the most beautiful things.
If you ever make it to China…make a point of going to the great wall…but don’t just walk up the parts that are busy with tourists. Make sure you find a section that a hotel has access to and climb up there…that is where you can get a sense of the wordlessness that comes from standing on the Great Wall of China.

To Run or Not to Run

The question is…should I run for house council and if so what position should I run for?

Many people have encouraged me to run for pres, saying that they think i would do a good job. I look at my experience and am not sure if I could lead a group of my peers in planning events for people our own age. I am good at planning things for children but adults not so much.

I walk through our residence and look at the posters of the people who are already running and they just make me want to vote NO for all of them. For example: Lauren ____ = HAF is completely inappropriate as a campaign ad. Or Kyle Power’s posters with the stupid drunk face. In what way does showing that you know how to party and that you can’t spell or will use foul language to get our attention show your competance for president of VP programming.

This is what makes me want to run EXCEPT…if I were to get on house council I would then be working with these idiots who probbaly only want to plan things that involve lots of drinking and partying.

I think that house council need to literally ask the question, “what do you want house council to do for you?” some people will say throw more parties but I know that there are others who want house council to implement some changes in the system we have become used to in the last couple years living here.

I am sure that the people already running are excellent individuals however their competence is questionable. I am fairly certain that some of them are members of the frosh population for this year, the population which has caused the most damages to our residence and who have led to the creation of our new house rules on drinking.

So it comes down to this. Should I run for house council and risk having to work with a bunch of potentially incompetent students OR should I not run and risk having house council be the worst one so far? AND would I be a suitible person for a house council position?
